🏖️ The Best Beaches in Skiathos: Our Honest Review

Skiathos is famous for its beautiful beaches, with over 60 to choose from. During our honeymoon, we visited six of the island’s most popular beaches, each offering something completely different.

Here’s my honest review to help you decide which beaches are worth adding to your itinerary.

🌲 1. Koukounaries Beach ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Without a doubt one of the most famous beaches in Skiathos—and for good reason.

The golden sand, crystal-clear water and backdrop of pine trees make it feel like paradise. It’s perfect for families, with shallow water and plenty of facilities nearby.

If you’re lucky, you might even spot the famous swans on Strofilia Lake just behind the beach.

Good to know:

  • 🚍 Bus Stop 26
  • 🍴 Plenty of restaurants and beach bars
  • 🚤 Water taxis available
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Perfect for families

🌊 2. Megali Ammos ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Megali Ammos became our “local” beach as it was just 2 minutes from Skiathos Avaton.

It’s only around a 10-minute walk from Skiathos Town, making it perfect if you want a beach day without travelling far. Although it’s narrower than some of the island’s other beaches, the convenience and clear water make it well worth visiting.

Good to know:

  • 🚶 10-minute walk from Skiathos Town
  • 🏨 Great choice if staying nearby
  • 🍽️ Lots of beachfront restaurants

🐐 3. Tsougria ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Our favourite beach of the entire trip.

Tsougria is an uninhabited island that’s only accessible by boat. The water is unbelievably clear, there are pine trees providing natural shade, and if you’re lucky you’ll even spot the island’s famous wild goats.

We hired foldable deck chairs under the trees, which made for the perfect relaxing afternoon.

Good to know:

  • 🚤 Boat access only
  • 🌲 Natural shade
  • 🪑 Foldable chairs available to hire
  • 🐐 Wild goats

🤍 4. Lalaria Beach ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

One of the most iconic beaches in Greece.

Lalaria can only be reached by boat and is famous for its dramatic white cliffs, smooth white pebbles and the incredible Tripia Petra sea arch.

We visited on a sunset cruise, which meant the temperatures were much cooler and there was more shade from the cliffs than during the middle of the day.

Good to know:

  • 🚤 Boat only
  • 📸 One of Skiathos’ most photographed beaches
  • 👟 Wear beach shoes—the pebbles get very hot.

🎬 5. Kastani Beach ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you’re a Mamma Mia! fan, this is a must.

Several scenes from the film were shot here, and it’s easy to see why. The beach is absolutely stunning, with turquoise water and a fantastic beach bar.

The atmosphere is brilliant, and we loved spending the afternoon here.

Good to know:

  • 🎥 Mamma Mia! filming location
  • 🍹 Great beach bar
  • 🚿 Showers available
  • 🌊 Crystal-clear water

🌅 Which beach was our favourite?

If we had to rank them, it would be:

🥇 Tsougria
🥈 Koukounaries
🥉 Kastani
4️⃣ Lalaria
5️⃣ Megali Ammos

Every beach offered something different, and honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them.

If you’re planning a trip to Skiathos, I’d recommend visiting as many as possible—you’ll soon discover why this little Greek island has become one of our favourite destinations.
